Srishti Singh

Research Assistant Professor

Srishti Singh was born in Bilaspur, formerly in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India, now part of the state of Chhattisgarh. She completed her undergraduate education in mathematics at an all-girls college within the University of Delhi, India, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics (Honours). Having completed a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Missouri in May 2026, Srishti is currently a (postdoctoral) Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Say you have unlimited $2 and $3 coins, what is the largest amount you can’t make with exact change? This classic Frobenius problem leads to numerical semigroups, which consist of amounts for which you can make exact change. Srishti’s research is on numerical and affine semigroups studied through commutative algebraic, combinatorial, and computational methods, with additional tools from convex geometry.

Outside of mathematics, she loves to play badminton (and has done so for over two decades). She is also an avid reader and finds literature essential for balance and well-being in academic life. Her favorite authors include James Islington, N.K. Jemisin, Patrick Rothfuss, Arundhati Roy, and Amitav Ghosh, with particular recommendations for The Kingkiller Chronicle, The Bartimaeus Trilogy, and The Broken Earth Trilogy.
